Barb's Home Page This week's Random Rant: Pay a little attention to your babies! I could just weep when I'm at the rec center and I see a baby stuck in a stroller somewhere while the mom is working out & completely ignoring it. I don't mean for a quick lap around the track but for a LONG time. Like the whole time I'm there which could be more than an hour. The mom is doing her own thing, the baby is fussing, and all the mom does is stick a pacifier in it's mouth. Hmmm. I wonder why the baby's not learning to talk. Wonder why the baby's cranky. Couldn't be that you've been ignoring it? Nah, just coincidence. I KNOW parents are entitled to a life and you aren't expected to play with your kids and stimulate their brains 24/7, but this seems a little excessive. Even when the mom could be talking and looking at the baby like when the mom is on the exercise bike, she's STILL ignoring it - looking straight ahead, concentrating NOT on the baby, maybe has an Ipod in her ears. So if you don't look at the baby and you can't hear the baby, is the baby still there? Here's a wild alternative. If you can afford a membership to the rec center, then you can afford a mother's helper to play with your child for a while. Brilliant solution if I do say so myself.
